"Over the River and Through the Woods..."

Wow! Gabe's first Christmas was a whirlwind of fun, merriment and wonder. More than anything, his Daddy and I were just so incredibly thankful to have him here and to be celebrating that joyous occasion with him.

His first Christmas was also combined with his first visit to Pa and Nana's house. Their house is 4 hours away and Daddy and I were somewhat nervous about this trip with Baby Gabe. We scrambled around the house trying to get ready while Grammy and Jessie kept Gabe entertained. Then got his little tummy full and loaded up in the truck for the long trip. Our worry was unwarranted though because Baby Gabe traveled like an angel! He slept some, but he was actually awake more than I thought he would be. He got a cute little stuffed monkey from his daycare teachers for Christmas and he had a good time talking to it during that long trip. My favorite part was that he made the whole trip in the backseat by himself. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy sitting back there with my little man, but my back appreciates it more if I sit up front with Daddy. Especially on such a long trip!

Pa and Nana and everyone else was so happy to see Baby Gabe again. He got to meet some of his great, great aunts that he has never met too. They thought he was just something else! He also got to spend some time with his cousins Jamie and J.B. I think he really enjoyed his trip. He got rocked a lot, sang to some, and just loved almost to pieces.

He got lots of great gifts for Christmas. So many neat new toys and keepsakes; he just doesn't know how blessed he really is! My most favorite part of it all was on Christmas morning. Baby Gabe woke us up bright and early at 6:30 ready for some breakfast. After I fed him, he and I climbed back in the bed to wake up his sleeping Daddy and the three of us spent the first few moments of Christmas morning right there laughing and playing and loving on our sweet little baby. It was one of the best moments of my life.

We traveled back home on Christmas day and found out the hard way that there is NOTHING open (at least no fast food joints). Baby Gabe traveled like a champ again. He got a little fussy as we got really close to home, but I think he may have just been missing all of the fun that we left when we left Pa and Nana's house.

When we got home we saw that Santa had brought Gabe a few things so we got out the video camera while he looked at all of his neat new stuff.

That evening, we spent Christmas with my family at Grammy and Pop's house. Everyone was so excited to share Baby Gabe's first Christmas with us. Jessie and Eli helped him open his presents (and everybody else's too!!). It was a fun time and Gabe got so many neat new things that he loves to play with.

This Christmas was certainly the best one yet for us. Gabe is our little miracle that we waited so long for and now that he is here, Christmas takes on a new meaning. Heck, EVERYDAY takes on new meaning!

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' on the River

Baby Gabe rolled over last night!!! Ok, I admit, it may have been a fluke thing because he did it once and then didn't do it again, but he did it! He rolled over!! I did make it kind of easy for him because he was on the big bed in his room and I think that since it gives a little more than the floor that it was easier for him. But listen to me making excuses! My baby boy rolled over! He really did!!!!! ~Snif, he's growing up SO fast!!!

Toes anyone?
The little booger has discovered his feet. He is fascinated with them!! It's getting harder to change his diaper because he has his little toes in his hands the whole time. And he has also figured out how to put them in his mouth! He doesn't do it a lot - I'm guessing they can't taste too great - but he will stick that left big toe in there from time to time. I probably need to find him some little socks with bells or something on them now. He would think that was just too much fun!!!!

The world's longest tongue
I think Gabe has it!! He has started doing this thing where when he talks to you, he also sticks his tongue way out. Kind of reminds me of the WHAAZZUUUPPPPP commercials. He makes that same kind of sound. What was so funny was that he was doing this while he was sitting with us during supper in his Bumbo. He would look over at Daddy and go WHAAZZZZZ with his tongue WAY out and Daddy would say "do that to mama" and he would look at me in all seriousness and just stare. Then back to Daddy, and out goes that tongue! That's ok though. I got my fair share or grins, giggles and cuddles!!

Another nice weekend

We had another nice weekend. Saturday was my birthday!! Gabe and I had a photo session, trying to get the perfect photo for Christmas cards. I think we got some pretty cute ones...

We had a really good time making them! There a tons more on Gabe's Photobucket album. You should check them out!! It was so hard to decide which ones to go with!

Saturday night we went to my "surprise" party and Gabe was of course the hit of the party. He sat in his bumbo right there on the table and acted like such a good little man. He did cry when we were singing "Happy Birthday". Daddy said it was because he only likes bluegrass. Could be! I played it for him when he was in my tummy through ear phones. It was when I was trying to get him to turn over out of the breech position. Didn't work!

Sunday we attempted to make it to church but by the time we finished feeding and doing Gabe's breathing treatment, it was already too late to finish getting dressed. We have been huge slackers since Gabe got here about going. It really is harder to do with a little one. But that's really no excuse I guess. We aren't the first couple to have a baby!

We went to Grammy and Pop's for dinner like usual and then rested all afternoon. Me and Gabe took a little nap on the couch. He's finally getting big enough so that I can lay him down with me on the couch and actually sleep without worrying about him. It's so sweet to nap with that little feller.

Just like Daddy

So I see now that Gabe is getting more and more like Daddy everyday. Last night I was scurrying around trying to get some things done and Daddy was tending to Gabe. He found the Charlie Brown Christmas special in TV so he sat Gabe in his bumbo on the floor in front of the TV to watch. Then he lounged down there beside him. When I came in, I just cracked up at the two of them. You see, Daddy's hair is well, um a bit think up top. And Gabe was born with all of that beautiful black hair which is falling out more and more everyday. He has this little place in back that looks just like somebody buzzed him on accident with some electric clippers. Anyway, the shot that I got when I walked in was the backs of both of their heads as they sat there and watched TV together and if it weren't for the fact that one of them was sitting in a bumbo you probably couldn't have been able to tell the difference! Twin baldies!! Too cute!!

The cutest thing he does

(Well, for now anyway!).

The cutest thing happens when we sit down to eat supper (well, any meal we happen to actually sit down together for!). We put Gabe in his bumbo in the middle of table and he LOVES it!! He examines the food, his feet, the bear salt and pepper shakers, and US! The cutest thing he does is where he looks over at Daddy and just grins SO big. It doesn't matter if Daddy is looking back at him or not, he is just content to sit there and smile SO BIG at Daddy. After many times of me telling him, "hey, he's smilin at you" he's finally figured it out and now knows how to make him go from that big huge grin to his little "huh, huh" laugh and an even bigger grin. Daddy will pretend like he is not looking at Gabe and then when Gabe looks over there and grins, he turns around real quick and will say "what chu doin" and Gabe will just crack up. It's just way too sweet. I think he and Daddy are going to be big buddies.

The not as cute part is when he turns and looks at me. He has this look on his face like "mama, what are you doing here. This is mine and Daddy's time?". That's ok though. We have plenty of Mommy and Gabe time.

Our Weekend

This was a good weekend! All weekends are good to me because I get to spend all day with my little man but this weekend was exceptionally good because Gabe had a great weekend! On Saturday, he went to his first birthday party!! There were lots of little kids for him to look at and even a pony for him to ride. It was very cold and rainy so he only got to sit on the pony just long enough to get his picture made, but he seemed to think it was a pretty neat thing. He sat in his bumbo seat on the counter and that made him feel like he was really doing something big boy-ish. He LOVES his bumbo!!

On Sunday Gabe slept in. He is his mama's boy, that's for sure! He loves to sleep!!! I am not complaining mind you!! After he ate though, he started throwing up and scared his mommy and daddy pretty good. I gave him some of his gripe water and that seemed to soothe his tummy. I still don't know what the deal was. Maybe he just ate too much? He was in such a great mood though, it was hard to think that he might be sick. He sat with Daddy in the floor of his room and "danced" to "Working Man Blues" while Daddy sang it. It was so cute.

For dinner (we are in the South folks - Dinner=Lunch in case you didn't know), we went to eat with Grammy and Pop. We put Gabe on the table in his bumbo and he had the best time. After dinner, the three of us went to pick out our Christmas tree. Baby Gabe slept through the whole thing, except when the Home Depot guy cranked up the chain saw. He didn't fuss though.

We managed to get the tree home and in the stand and in the house but no ornaments or lights on it yet. That will require Daddy going up in the attic and last night he seemed pretty content to just sitting and watching Westerns with Gabe. Maybe tonight...

Poor Gabe seemed to be having tummy problems again right before bed so I gave him more gripe water. That, along with a big poot seemed to help! He woke me up around 1am thinking he needed to eat again and I could tell he was still having gas issues. At 3:30 I made Daddy get up with him and he slept after that. He always seems to do that - sleeps the rest of the night after Daddy visits him. I like to think that he is crying for me, and then when Daddy shows up, he just resigns himself to sleep since he doesn't get to visit with me again! Seems like a good theory anyway.

The best part of the whole weekend and this morning was that even though he was obviously having tummy problems, he was handing out all kinds of beautiful toothless Baby Gabe grins!! I love that little boy's smile! Even at 1:30am I was content to blow kisses on his tummy just to hear him laugh!! He doesn't quite squeal yet, but he does this cute little "huh, huh" laugh that is all his. I mean really, how can you NOT love this smile???
